This delicious, flambéed dessert delivers rum-infused, caramelized bananas served with creamy vanilla ice cream. If you’ve been afraid to try bananas foster in your own kitchen, wait until you see how easy it is!
3-4ripe but firm bananaspeeled and sliced lengthwise, then crosswise
¼cupdark rum
Vanilla ice cream for serving
Instructions
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
When the butter is bubbly, add the sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt. Cook until the mixture is thick and bubbly, whisking constantly.
Add the bananas to the pan, cut side down. Cook for 1 minute, until the bananas are lightly caramelized on the cut side. Use a spatula to flip the bananas over.
Turn off the heat (this is important) and add the rum to the pan (the sauce should still be bubbling). Use a long-reach lighter or kitchen torch to ignite the sauce. Cook, shaking the pan, until the flame goes out. Note: Lighting the rum is optional.
Transfer the bananas and sauce to dessert plates and serve with ice cream.
