This easy meal features juicy, pan-seared hamburger steaks in a satiny, caramelized onion gravy. Serve with rice or buttered noodles and you have the most comforting meal ever! And it couldn't be easier to throw together.
In a large bowl, combine the beef, 1 teaspoon of onion powder, ground mustard, 1/2 teaspoon of the garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Mix to combine, being careful not to over-mix.
Shape the mixture into 4 equal patties.
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the hamburger steaks and cook for 4 minutes per side, until nicely browned on both sides. Transfer the hamburger steaks to a plate (they will finish cooking in the gravy).
Drain all but 1 tablespoon of grease from the pan and add the butter. When the butter has melted, add the onions to the pan and cook for 5 to 10 minutes, until soft and deeply browned. Add the flour and stir to coat.
Add the beef broth, remaining 1/4 teaspoon of onion powder, remaining 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce and bring to a simmer.
Return the hamburger steaks to the pan and simmer for 5 to 7 minutes, or until the meat is cooked to your liking. If you want the meat cooked all the way through, cook until 155 to 160 degrees F.
