  • 1 pound linguine or pasta of choice
  • 15- ounce can tomato sauce or tomato puree or crushed tomatoes, or whole tomatoes, crushed with a fork
  • 2 tablespoons prepared basil pesto
  • 2 tablespoons grated or shredded parmesan cheese plus more for serving
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • Chopped fresh parsley or basil for serving optional

Instructions

  • Cook the pasta according to the package directions. Drain and cover with foil to keep warm.
  • Meanwhile, in a large, high-sided skillet or saucepan, combine the tomato sauce, pesto, and parmesan cheese. Set the pan over medium heat and bring to a simmer. Simmer for 10 minutes. Season to taste with salt and black pepper.
  • Add the cooked pasta to the sauce and stir to coat. Top with parsley or basil (if using) and serve with extra parmesan cheese on the side.
