Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 pound penne or pasta of choice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion any color
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups tomato sauce
  • Shredded parmesan cheese for serving
  • Chopped fresh basil or parsley for serving

Instructions

  • Cook the pasta according to the package directions. Drain and cover with aluminum foil to keep warm.
  • Meanwhile, heat the olive oil in a large stock pot or saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, until soft. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  • Add the beef and cook until browned, breaking up the meat as it cooks. Add the Italian seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper and stir to coat. Cook for 1 minute, until the herbs are fragrant.
  • Add the tomato sauce and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Transfer the pasta to individual plates or shallow bowls and top with the Bolognese sauce. Top with parmesan cheese and fresh basil or parsley and serve.
