Cook the pasta according to the package directions. Drain and cover with aluminum foil to keep warm.
Meanwhile, heat the olive oil in a large stock pot or saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, until soft. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
Add the beef and cook until browned, breaking up the meat as it cooks. Add the Italian seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper and stir to coat. Cook for 1 minute, until the herbs are fragrant.
Add the tomato sauce and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 10 minutes.
Transfer the pasta to individual plates or shallow bowls and top with the Bolognese sauce. Top with parmesan cheese and fresh basil or parsley and serve.
