Creamy Beef and Mushrooms

This savory one-pan meal features tender ground beef and earthy mushrooms in a rich, creamy sauce. Serve over pasta or rice (or all by itself), and you can enjoy the ultimate quick-and-easy weeknight meal. And there are countless variations!

I love how customizable this dish is. I used ground beef, but ground chicken and ground turkey work as well. And you can use your favorite mushroom variety, whether that’s button, cremini, or a blend of wild mushrooms. You can also make the dish spicy; I used 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, but add more for a more fiery dish.
You can easily make this sauce thinner if desired. If you want to stretch the beef mixture, or make a thinner sauce to spoon over pasta, add a little more broth or cream, or both. The consistency is entirely under your control.

How should you serve the beef and mushrooms? I love serving the beef and mushrooms over tender noodles, but you can also serve it over fluffy rice, creamy mashed potatoes, in bread bowls, or over your favorite grain.

Creamy Beef and Mushrooms
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 8 ounces sliced mushrooms, regular or cremini (baby bella)
- 1 teaspoon Italian herb seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 1/2 cup beef broth, or beef bone broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- Chopped fresh parsley for serving, optional
Instructions
- Heat the oil in large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook for 3 to 5 minutes, until soft. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add the beef and cook until browned, breaking up the meat as it cooks. Add the mushrooms and cook for 3 minutes, until soft.
- Add the Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper and stir to coat. Cook for 1 minute, until fragrant.
- Add the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and tomato paste and bring to a simmer. Reduce the heat to medium-low and stir in the cream. Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Season to taste with salt and black pepper.
- Top with parsley (if using) and serve over rice, noodles, mashed potatoes, or your favorite grain.
